Computer Assisted Radar Tomography

GEL Geophysics, LLC performed a Computer Assisted Radar Tomography (CART) investigation along a buried fuel supply system. The investigation was designed to develop detailed and continuous plan and profile drawings of the fuel lines. The purpose of the investigation was to identify the high and low points of the fuel lines to install drainage systems on the low points and vents on the high points. The areas surveyed consisted predominantly of asphalt, concrete, and grassed surfaces. The data was processed using proprietary software to create 3-dimensional, high-resolution radar images of the subsurface. The target utilities' horizontal location and depth below surface were determined. In order to convert depth to true elevations, a topographic survey was conducted along the utility routes and tied into existing survey elevation points.

As a result of the CART investigation, the client was able to acheive substantial savings by having the ability to evaluate only the needed locations, and not the entire fuel supply system.
