Charleston, South Carolina – December 9th, 2009 – Furthering its commitment to providing a healthy workplace for its employees, The GEL Group, Inc. (GEL) recently applied for, and was awarded the WELCOA “Well Workplace” award at the Gold level.
By achieving this level of excellence in workplace wellness programming, GEL has demonstrated its commitment to protect and enhance the health and well-being of its employees. “It is our people that make the difference,” says Jim Stelling, President and CEO. “In the spirit of our Core Values, we are committed to supporting their efforts, and certainly a key factor in employee effectiveness is good health. Our plan and purpose is to give our employees and their families an opportunity to make choices that will enable them to live healthier and happier lives.”
By submitting the application, GEL invited reviewers from WELCOA to examine and evaluate wellness efforts in the workplace according to rigorous standards and measurable results. The wellness initiative was started in the spring of 2008. Subsidized gym memberships, walking competitions, health and nutrition classes, smoking cessation classes, weight-loss programs, and health screenings are just a few of the ways chosen to raise health awareness with employees.
This year, the “Well Workplace” Award was presented to only 95 organizations throughout the US, of which 11 are located in South Carolina.
